Hi – I’m Paula Truyens, owner of Truyens|Text. Welcome to my website!
I grew up in Southern Africa, where I took my GCEs at a British school. In 1982, I moved to the Netherlands and rapidly became proficient in Dutch as I completed my pre-university education in The Hague. After studying Biology at Utrecht University I took a translation course at a private institution, rounding this off by becoming a court-sworn translator in 1996. Since then I have attended numerous translation workshops, seminars, minors and day courses. For 13 years, I worked on legal anf financial translation and revision projects as an in-house translator.
Besides translating for a wide range of clients, mostly in the fields of Higher Education, Law, Insurance, Appraisals, Architecture, Infrastructure & Environment and the Energy Industry, my in-house activities also involved terminology management, proofreading, Windows and Trados troubleshooting and contributing to company strategy. In 2009, I launched my freelance business.
Membership of professional organisations
As a sworn translator, I’m registered with Bureau Wbtv, the Dutch Bureau for Sworn Translators and Interpreters. I’m a member of SENSE, the Society of English-language professionals in the Netherlands, and you can also find me at ProZ. Get in touch if you’d like know more.
Wie ben ik?
Ik ben opgegroeid in Zuidelijk Afrika en heb mijn middelbare onderwijs afgerond op een Britse school. Op zestienjarige leeftijd verhuisde ik naar Nederland en voltooide mijn VWO opleiding in Den Haag. Na mijn studie Biologie aan de Universiteit van Utrecht volgde ik een vertaalopleiding en werd beëdigd als vertaler in 1996. Sindsdien heb ik deelgenomen aan tal van seminars, minors, cursussen en vertaalworkshops – tegenwoordig een vereiste voor beëdigde vertalers.
Lidmaatschap van professionele organisaties
Als beëdigde vertaler sta ik conform de Wet beëdigde tolken en vertalers (Wbtv) ingeschreven bij het Bureau Wbtv. Ik ben ook lid van SENSE, een vereniging voor Engelstalige taalprofessionals in Nederland. Ook ben ik te vinden op vertaalsite ProZ.
